A great story and well told! If this is the work we should expect from Iranian films and studios then I am very excited for more.
The pace of the story requires immersion. It would have been easy to lose me several times but instead I was pulled along by the current in each turn effortlessly. Film actors portraying characters who are acting in a play often feels odd for me, as a viewer. It serves to break my immersion and make me feel skeptical. For me this is especially true in subtitled films because I have all of my attention focused in order to watch it so I will notice extra detail I would normally miss. Even great actors, when their character enters and exits the persona of the sub-character it is often cheap feeling and just pulls me out of the story. This transition occurs several times and it actually served to draw me deeper in. There is one seen in particular where the victim and a boy are discussing something backstage and the boy’s mother comes in and transitions simply and effortlessly moves within her characters. I was pulled deeper into the story every scene.
