The District would allow itself to idealistically lecture us about unresolved social issues. I guess we should have listened better because 20 years later and the show's problems are still around and sadly thriving.

The Rookie seems to actually share the day to day regulation grit of being a Police Officer in a way I cannot recall seeing before. Each character is flushed out really well and we care about them all.
