First of all hats off to Richard Gadd (The lead) who endured SA, lived through that trauma, experienced stalking for years, processed it and transformed it into this piece of art for everyone to see and view trauma from a different perspective. The show also does not miss out on representation of various traumas and reactions that follows it, varying from person to person. Cinematically, it was wonderful. Acting fabulous!! But here I would like to dive into something more deep, a glance at Richard's psyche. He tries to paint us a picture of what had happened to him over the years and how he reacted to situations knowing very well how things might turn out, going from bad to worse. He narrates how the victim is not always flawless and "perfect". Sometimes the victim is presented with options to choose from and they choose the option that leads to more harm whereas the other option might mean the end of the problem forever. The show tell us why the victim chooses the "wrong" option. It is because somewhere, somehow they thought they might gain something by sacrificing their self respect and losing bits and pieces of themselves in the process was justified at the moment. But as I was discussing this with my friend, they said how in most of the cases the victims think somehow it was their fault that something henious has happened to them. Maybe Richard was the same, maybe he was belittling himself, maybe it wasn't his fault at all, maybe it was all in his head that made him think that he kind of enabled such behaviour from the perpetrators' end.
