As a longtime fan of Tony Hillerman's writing, I wanted to love this show. And I am enjoying it - but with great difficulty. In particular, what they have done to Jim Chee is awful. They should have renamed his character. Leaphorn is great. Bernadette is not at all how Hillerman described her, but the actress does a great job.
The show itself is fine - I really like that it's set in the time period, the way they bring Navajo treatment by the feds, a compelling storyline - but it should have a disclaimer. It is loosely related to the novels, but even the word "adaptation" implies a fidelity that is not present.
