I am an oncologist (cancer doctor), I have prescribed opioids to many patients, including oxycontin; and here is my evaluation of this show:
The show is partially truthful, however it is biased, and events evidently are dramatized for production purposes.
The guilty one behind the opioid epidemic is not just pharma companies, but also physicians, the culture, and the healthcare system.
If healthcare is an industry, patients (via doctors) are the consumers. Pharma companies want to sell. thus they aim to cuddle patients. They want to alleviate the pain at all cost, to the extent they adopted the non-sense pitch "Pain as the fifth vital sign", because simply that what patients (the consumer) want.
Hulu wants people to watch the show at all cost, just like Purdue wanted to sell oxycontin at all cost. It's all business. That's why they made purdue the sole villain of the show, to build our rage and make us practice a habit we all are addicted to: judgement.
