A gem of a film. The deceptively simple script allows us insight to the hopes and fears of the characters; the 'keeping face', the quiet despair. Yet the beauty of our country is the main player; the lushness , the greenness, the majestic landscape. Beautiful score, amazing cinematography, first class acting. Yet McGahern doesn't flinch from the harshness of humanity borne out of need, the famine forever in our psyche and the need to protect oneself first and foremost. Do not miss this!
