I NEVER write reviews of shows, but maaaan I just can't let this one go. This show was such a let down.
After seeing the trailer on Netflix and wanting to see Lee Min Ho back in action as a lead, I started watching it. I got two episodes in and quickly got distracted with a different series.
I ended up finally watching Goblin and fell in LOVE. SO GOOD. Kim Go-eun was phenomenal, so I figured I would pick The King back up, craving more of her acting.
While the acting was good, the overall storyline was just meh. The romance between The King and Tae-eul was so forced and underdeveloped; for three whole episodes, she acts all hostile and gruff towards him and then all of a sudden she's over-the-heels in love? She goes from this badass female character who cares about her job more than relationships to "oh, I can't do anything without you!". And he loves her by default because of some ID card he's been carrying around for 25 years? Nah man. Lukewarm at best.
By episode 10, I legitimately found myself not caring about what happens. I had no investment in any of the characters and just found the plot to be derivative and boring. I can't bring myself to finish.
