The Shawshank Redemption?
The name of the movie The Shawshank Redemption means the redemption of Shawshank. In the movie Shawshank is the name of the prison Andy sentence to. During the movie we see how corrupted Shawshank is when Andy came. The warden was a wicked and evil man who wanted perfection only. He wanted everything was in place. He will do anything to keep Shawshank the way it is even if he had to get dirt under is finger. The movie focuses on the redemption of Shawshank. How people inside Shawshank change into better men and how.
Redemption
Even though Andy was the main character he didn’t really change. The redemption part was more towards the prisoners at Shawshank and Red. A friend who Andy meets at Shawshank. In the beginning the prisoner are stripped from there individuality, and lost all sight of hope. They lived so long inside walls that they lost themselves and now can’t break free. During the movie they portray the characters as lost souls. Living there life in a loop. They don’t seem to care about life anymore. When time passes by with you doing nothing you seem to lose part of yourself. (Like quarantine for example) So when Brook was released from prison we couldn’t seem to adapt with the real world. All that time inside Shawshank changed him in a negative way. With no life in the outside he was considered a outcast and couldn’t seem to live and adapt to the outside world. When Andy came Shawshank started to change in a more positive way. Instead of Shawshank being a place where violence and fear lived. Andy turned it into a place for prisoners to redeem themselves. Starting with the library. A place for prisoners to get there education so when they leave Shawshank they know how start a life. He managed to bring hope and joy in a place where darkness and violences seemed to live. This changed the prisoners in a better way. They redeemed themselves because of Andy. When Red was released from prison he was falling the same way Brooks did but Andy impact on Red changed him. He realized Andy was right. “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” He then travels to Mexico and visit Andy who escaped Shawshank.
Overall...
Hope can change a person. When Andy came and shined hope in a place where despair and fear lived, hoped came and changed everyone. The film manages to destroy you but mends you into one with a satisfying ending. This film is more than just a prison movie. The movie reminds us that even when your at your darkest hour, darkest moment, darkest time hope can turn change you and turn you into a better person. Hope can redeem you.
