I did not expect to like the film much because of all the negative reviews I saw online and also because I am such a huge fan of the film it remakes Forrest Gump... But I am so glad I did... If you go in with an open mind, the beautiful heart of this film will change you.... In the way only great cinema can.
Atul Kulkarni's script gives the film many twists and turns, reining it back in only when he returns to the original script for key moments and lines...as a remake should.
All held held together by the skillful direction of Advait Chandan and the promise of good cinema that comes with being an Aamir Khan production.
But while it's a filmmaker's triumph, it's the film's powerful performances that carry the film to your heart......Mona Singh, Kareena Kapoor, and Naga Chaitanya. But the real superstars are the two kids.
Yet the loudest cheer the audience reserved was for that special moment when Shahrukh Khan appeared onscreen.
Personally, I do think Tom Hanks' portrayal of Forrest was far more nuanced than Amir's interpretation of Laal. But Aamir remains eminently watchable.
Both the landscape and soul of the film remain India... in all its magnitude, contradictions, and humanness. What a setting for old vine in a new bottle.
It is a love song to India, life and humanity... In that order.
Ignore the trolls. Go watch it. The film will leave you inspired
