Jane Austin is my all time favorite author and I have read every book and watched every version of her books made into movies and TV series. I LOATHED Netflix’s version of Persuasion! I didn’t watch it past Anne Elliot’s arrival at Uppercross. I turned it off and gave it a thumbs down. Jane Austin’s Persuasion is NOT Bridgerton! And the steady breaking of the fourth wall instead of character development established by dialogue left the other characters lacking depth . Why even have the other characters present when the director’s, Carrie Cracknell‘s, version of Anne Elliot can just do all of the talking and tell you her take on everything and everyone which is how this Netflix version ensues. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED. Carrie Cracknell may be a leading British theatre director, but she FAILED for this, her debut film.
