If you're prepared to suspend disbelief this is a very enjoyable show. For sure the plot has more holes than a swiss cheese, the dialogue is clunky and the characters are clichéd but it more than satisfies as a silly summer action blockbuster. I don't think the writers ever intended it to be some kind of docudrama.
