I was looking forward to this after having watched many great opening ceremonies, particularly London 2012.
But what a disappointment! It was disjointed, baffling and lacking anything that represents all things Gallic to most of us.
The setting was stunning, but couldn't save the weirdness of a below-par Gaga, a bunch of very unsexy Can-can dancers, a troupe of dancers purportedly representing 'workers' on the restoration of Sacre Coeur (one male was wearing a pink chiffon skirt?!) and a rain-soaked unknown pianist (at least to me). All punctuated by gharishly dressed 'artistes'. So woke and out there. But too OTT for me...
The procession of the athletes reminded me of a Viking funeral. No glory there.
Celine Dion was superb. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late.
Overall? Nul points. Quelle domage.
