Honestly it was a close 4 star, but I had to give it a 3 in the end, its an intresting ride, not a particularly fun one, it's a very ugly game not in terms of graphics but in terms of content and story.
I would say I came away angry, depressed and unfulfilled and people are saying "that's the whole point" I am sorry but if you want a horrible ugly story about how killing is wrong Spec Ops : The Line does a far better job at getting this same message across. This is just poor writing and I dont understand why people are claiming that this is the best writing the mediam has to offer, its far from it and I just feel embarrassed that people have played such a narrow selection of other titles to think this.
It's a decent story in a mass audience way, but this is like how Game of Thrones or Westworld is good writing, only when consumed by a general audience who dont really encounter these things regularly and dont like to think too hard, because if you start thinking only slightly like "why is killing this one person who I have valid reason to hate bad when I have literally just killed 200+ people brutally with no connection on the way here ok" the whole narrative just buckles and falls flat. There are numerous and superior examples out there and many will be rolling there eyes at how unsubtle it is when compared to these,
worth picking up on sale, but only if you have the likes of God of War, Uncharted 4 or Horizon Zero Dawn already, as they fill the same mass market appeal but you will feel much better by the time the credits roll.
