Disclaimer: i have not read the books. If you’re looking for an escape or something similar to Outlander, you unfortunately will probably be disappointed. The beginning sets a few hooks, but the character development is never fully realized. I became less and less interested in Matthew & Diana as the show went on. There are too many things going on in the plot too quickly to afford any natural dialogue or believable discourse between characters. It reminded me of the Sims - characters sort of on hold until they were needed. After everything is finally resolved, the series just ends. I felt like I didnt really get to know any of the characters. Overall, the show is watchable and not too bad - just not robust.

I didn’t get through the second episode, so I can’t give a FULL review, but that should tell you something too. I was looking forward to this period piece, but i couldnt keep watching… each character seemed extraordinarily cliché. The cringey father/daughter scenes seemed so children’s storybook-y that it turned me off immediately. The ultra villain Nazi scum commander was also classic and boring. There wasnt enough substance in any of the character development narratives to hook me. Shortly after starting episode 1 i felt bored and uninspired. After feeling the same in episode 2, i decided to look at some other reviews to see if i was crazy or preaching to the choir. Sorry, choir. I stay preaching.

Did ChatGPT write this movie? Nothing about the plot or the characters felt relatable whatsoever. Who watches basketball while holding a basketball? What is the background of Rob? Why is everyone beating up Mira for grieving? What is the purpose of Celine Dion? I am not even trying to be snarky - it actually has the feel of an AI written film. Nothing really went anywhere… I had no connection with any characters. The “awkwardness” of Mira and Rob was way over the top and was kind of the only inkling of character.

This show literally goes ~nowhere~ All three seasons contain extremely repetitive dialogue and scenes. Cal’s acting and script made me feel nothing. Super stereotypical child character - is sophisticated enough to know everything but won’t say anything explicitly and decides to draw pictures like a 4 year old. Ben stone uses a child’s drawing to pressure all sorts of different institutions, all while riding high on white privilege in the name of the callings. Black characters had no real development. I didn’t know why anything was happening. Watch this show if you like loops and poor writing. It does not resolve the plot. Edit: lots of lgbt hate out there in these reviews - don’t overthink peoples love for one another.

I actually liked this show even though I wasn’t crazy about S1 or S7. Took me awhile to get used to the drama of kids making horrible choices repeatedly. Clarke’s character also became really hard to believe towards the end. I thought her intensity towards Maddie broke the plot. But I really liked the overall premise and how it came to fruition gradually via flashbacks. The idea of the Commanders is really cool. I’d say this show was a hell of a lot better than the show Manifest.
