I will be honest and say that I love the book, and loved the 1980s movie adaptation, and detested the 2000s adaptation. The only reason that I am giving this a four star review is solely because there was nothing that stated that it was only Part 1 of the movie and not the whole movie. Though to do the book justice, you would have to have more than one movie.
I read a review, before I am writing this, that stated that they loved the book, but this movie is terrible because of all the scenes in it from the book. There was a direct comparison to the LOTR series.... it was very odd reading it.
For my review, I will tell you that it is very faithful to the source material, though there was some trimming for the movie (naturally). This movie encompasses about the first half of the book, and deals with a lot less action that you might have expected from watching the 1980s. The fight scenes are significantly better than the 1980s version, but that is what we have come to expect in the 2020s. The lead actor is something of a quandry for me. He doesn't really show the "regalness" of a Dukes son, and Lady Jessica should have been played a bit more regal also. They both did a good job in the movie, but I think they were just a bit off from the parts.
However, this did a great job of staying true to the original source material, have massive and expansive sets (like it should) and good pacing for the movie. Definitely a good watch, and hate that I now have to wait for the next movie to come out.
