A book that I never thought would have an end like this. I finished this in one sitting, It was my second Colleen Hoover's work. I'm literally out of words now. The very first line "I hear the crack of his skull before the splattering of blood reaches me" creeped me out there's a constant fire throughout the story. Starting from which there were too many traumatic and disturbing scenes from the midway like child abuse, murder, and sex obsession which made me utterly hate the Verity character. She was evilistic more than I thought her to be. I kept getting nightmares that night of Verity killing Lowen for knowing her secrets, blood all over her office, walls filled with Lownen's hand prints that were struggling to escape from Verity and drops of blood dripping from Verity's hand on the floor, terrified me very much. I wasn't very much impressed with Jeremy's role though it played most of the major points, it was a simple sweet, charming and sexy husband that most of the books had. I found myself somewhere in Lownen's shoes when she hated and feared social meetings, she was kinda an introverted girl who was insecure and avoided the outside world. I could easily connect with her than the other roles. Twists and turns were almost everywhere from the 15th chapter, yes they were predictable as I read but the climax made me go mute. I was dead quiet and felt empty for a few hours after wrapping up.
I'm with the 'Team Manuscript'. It was very clear that her letter was put up to cover her evilistic act. A few questions and assumptions popped up while going through the letter
- If the manuscript were her creativity then what about the scar that Chaustin had? Was it because the twins were fighting inside? Lol
- She simply used the writer's view to cover up the truth, how could someone be relieved by jotting down evil things that never happened in her life?
- She said she wanted to get away with Crew once she gets her money but why? She was that much in love with her husband and of a misunderstanding (from her pov) she wanted to leave him back alone. Like why Verity.
It was overall a good and a must-read book even though it had many tragedic and a few unnecessary scenes, sure it will keep you occupied till the very last line. It's easy for those who can deal with emotions and tragedy but for the ones who are soft going I guess you'll be triggered in a few places and mainly with the letter. You feel guilty for hating Verity so for you people it's good to go by reading the summary or prologue first before leaping into the story.
