Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I was widowed 16 years ago, totally identify with the 'sometimes salty sometimes sweet' message of this fabulous series. Crude humour nudges the boundaries.. but hey, we all need a laugh sometimes.

Reading the reviews I think some have taken themselves far too seriously. Do they know how to laugh at life, and at themselves? Most especially at Christmas family reunions? This movie might not be worthy of Oscars but rating from belly laughs (the duel) to giggles.. it is light hearted all-round entertainment, and should be taken as such.

Loved it! So funny and yet so sad in its accurate portrayal of those desperately disparate colonial times. Judi Dench, actress unsurpassed!
