In my opinion, the only reason this movie deserves even 1 star is because the music and art wasn’t as bad as everything else, which is a pretty low bar. And I say this as an avid Disney fan and a 90s kid who grew up watching all the Disney classics that we still love today. It is why I felt compelled to take the time out of my life to leave a review for this movie, that is now one that my daughter is growing up with, which frustrates me because compared to the classic Disney movies that I grew up with, it doesn’t even come close to comparing in the quality of the music, art, storyline, character development, and especially the lessons and messages it conveys to the audience.
The best way I can describe this movie is that it just seems like it was created by ChatGPT and not edited or altered in any way. It is the most bland and generic movie imaginable in every sense of the words: the 3D art, while at some points appealing, seemed lazy for the times compared to all the Disney and Pixar classics of before. The music was nice but lacked depth and didn’t seem to go along with the movie but rather be independent music videos from the film full of all types of deep emotions that were nonexistent or not expounded upon throughout the film. The character building/development was completely nonexistent; everyone just existed as they were and there was absolutely no chemistry between any of them, they all seemed to just exist there like NPCs in a video game, without any explanation or stories to them and were forced to interact for the sake of a forced “Disney 100” movie. The storyline was completely rushed and lacked any sense of depth or uniqueness. Again, generic and bland like everything else. And perhaps the most frustrating part was the message, or the lack thereof. Everyone deserves to have their wishes come true? Really? That’s the best Disney could come up with for their 100 year anniversary?? After all of the masterpieces they’ve created over the years, this was their “pièce de résistance”?? Underwhelming, disappointing, and just sad to see yet another example of a company that’s existed for so long, that it has become too big for its own good. Disney has forgotten its humble origins, the foundations of which it was built upon, and has become just another “too-big-to-fail” corporation that is solely focused on corporate profits and making its shareholders happy rather than putting out qualify products.
