For not possessing a personal relationship with the Almighty, Mark Williams is certainly able to portray Chesterton's classic Father Brown with such theological and religious depth that it is astounding on numerous grounds!
The character of Father Brown is perfect in adaptation! This series is exactly what it intends to be! When it needs to be deep, it really hits; when it needs to be campy and lighthearted, it can go there successfully as well!
The only plot hole that has always bothered me as one who is fairly familiar with the Cotswolds villages is given that there have been around a hundred murders in one quaint little town, who would move there?
But, I want the series to continue, so I'll shut up.
If I'm going to be nitpicky, Sid, Mrs. McCready, Lady Felicia, and Suzie are very static characters; this is super annoying! They all go through growth and development and receive some revelation during an episode, but, then, they're back to however things were at the start of every new one as if there had never been an episode before.
How many times can Sid steal or Lady Felicia cheat or Mrs. McCarthy (although I'm more forgiving as I like her as a static character) condemn someone prematurely?
The schtick can get old. They also set up relationships for/between main characters that they never follow through on.
But, as stated prior, I am nitpicky. This series is definitely worth the watch!!!!!!!!
