Ignoring the fact it is almost a direct knock-off clone of Star Wars, I found the main problem was the characters all seem to come out of central coasting.
Lonely orphan looking for revenge..........check
Unqualified nerd becoming a hero..........check
Super evil villain with delusions of godhood.........check
Superweason that can destroy everything........check
Ragtage group of expendable heroes looking to beat impossible odds.......check
Someone how I expected more from Peter Jackson and the LOTR team. The movie is just not interesting. I could not make up my mind if this movie was a straight fantasy, or a steam-punk, or bad science-fiction. Whatever it is they certainly have a unique view on the laws of physics.
If I could yell out one thing to all the big named directors and producers out there who direct these mega million bombs.....It is the story stupid. If you do not have a compelling story, then the $60 million budget for special effects is worthless. There is no compelling story here.
Am I glad I waited for the $2 DVD rental. I would have been really pissed if I had dropped $10-$20 to see this at the movies.
