It was a good move that would have been better if they had used subtitles for the moments when they were not speaking English. The fact that close to half the movie is not in English tends to leave you lost as to what one side's intent is.

The movie jumped around to way too many locations and time frames prior to what the movie was supposed to be about trying to create a background for the story. Then used so many cliches like the expected samurai comment by a Japanese officer. Then skipped over details that were important to what happened at Midway because they had spent too much time creating the back ground story. The 1976 version is far more accurate and far better.
