I saw the original Poseidon Adventure in the theater back in the 70's, and even as a kid realized that it was a poorly made film. I watched Poseidon on Vudu last night, positing that it couldn't be worse than the original.
I was wrong.
The screenplay is campy, the CGI effects amateurish, and the direction and acting uninspired. But its worst sin is not giving the audience any reason to care about the main characters. We're given little to no background on any of them during the rushed intro scenes that make up the screne writer's feable attempt at exposee. The capsizing occurs way before the audience has been given any chance to connect with one or more of the protagonists, and therefore we're left with no reason to care whether any of them survive.
If I could have given the film 0 stars, I would have.
