My impression of this movie has changed dramatically over the decades. When I was a young man, I thought it was really cool, if not a little bit tame. And then John Hinckley used it as an inspiration for trying to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. This thing has Hollywood written all over it, right? But Hollywood always has its dark, unspoken side. In this instance, James Brady was shot in the head trying to protect the President. The sad side of the story: he lived. He was mercilessly disabled. And no one talks about the hell that was the rest of his life. And people ask themselves why some hate our country so deeply. RIP James Brady. Never Forget.
