This book should be on the year 12 English reading list it is so significant. But those who read it should be in a good mental place as it's relays the day to day facts of war on the Western Front in WW1. It is a journal that puts war right in your face without glory. I kept on asking myself 'how the hell' did they keep going back minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. Disturbing, horrible, uplifting and humble.
