I loved this book. The narrative ploy of the online conversations was excellent (although very difficult to read on Kindle). Strike and Ellacot continue to grow and develop as characters, contrasting with the stasis of the characters in the plot, who are trapped in the digital unreality of the game. I found the story very confusing, which I think was intentional and meant to represent the layers of reality and falsehoods inhabited by the various characters. Above all, this was a book that speaks about how easy it is to inhabit an online world, become radicalised, indulge in the anonymity provided to promote hatred and manipulate others into the same vile vortex.
I look forward to the next book, where, hopefully, the ongoing love story will resolve!
