Big Budget B Movie - the latest of many. On the surface a decent enough movie. Don't try digging deeper, there's nothing there. Loud, action-packed, CGI, Robots, Giant Monsters, cliché, stereotypical characters, visually appealing. I'd definitely recommend this movie ifn you like Action movies.

While seemingly a slow, boring film, Solaris is a dark brooding psychological look into all of our minds as humanity contemplates the unknown Universe before us. Tarkovsky also uses this theme in The Zone, set against the relics of modern industrialization. Tarkovsky also uses long, slow movingly scenes, in a sense symbolizing the thick, viscous ocean that is thought to be intelligent. Read Stanilav Lem's original book for a better understanding of the film.

Depp is awesome. DiCaprio is annoying. Lewis is shallow and uninspiring. Cates is awesome. Overall, the script is overextended. The whole movie could've been set up within a few minutes. It could've been a more interesting movie - but that may be the point. We're as trapped in a boring movie as Gilbert is in his hometown.
