A well researched book about the heartbreaking epoch of Nazi hunting of young Ukrainians to slave labor in Germany. The author also draws on grandparents' experiences of that time. Ukraine is occupied by Poland, Stalin has thrust violence on the people ..Catastrophy is all around. Couple in love stand little chance. Love of family and strength of the human spirit prevail.

It should have been longer to suggest the passing of time. There should have been more emphasis on Wictor's lack of love of country and his betrayal to the Soviets.
The music was excellent as well as the singing and dancing showing Polish culture.
