The pacing was all over the place. When it first started I was confused about if what I was watching was a trailer because it was so fast paced and disorienting that I only realized the movie had started once I saw a pic of Elvis in the shot. The first 3rd of the film was so cramped with information and dialogue/voice over that I had a hard time following what was going on. I felt like I was drowning. The saying goes “show don’t tell” but these filmmakers told and told and told to the point where it felt like all they were doing was reading a biographical book of Elvis’s life complete with text upon text on screen. In the middle and end of the film, it suddenly became weirdly slower then the start but still felt off. The film still lacked pauses which made everything feel like a straight back and fourth between characters and actions (I still felt like I was being bombarded). At around 3/4th of the way through, the film became boring (which was also apart by the fact that everyone around me started checking their phones and looking at the time). All I could think about was how I’d wish he was dead to wrap up the story. On the upside the acting was great and all the Elvis music was the highlight of my experience with this film. Overall, the filmmakers trimmed off way too much meat in the edit and left in unnecessary scenes which made the film feel both oversaturated with information as well as long and boring.
