I’ve been playing FIFA for decades! Started with 2003 and played until 2020.
In 2020 I played a lot of Online Seasons and ended up getting so wound up by the unfairness of the game. I read up on DDA (Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment) which is where the system will adjust the quality of the opponent, the difficulty of the other team’s keeper, the quality of your team depending on the circumstance. Let me explain issues I faced…
- When the other team got a red card, my team were made slower and the other team improved.
- When I am 3+ goals ahead, the other team suddenly gets an injection of pace at half time and their passing is just flawless, my team’s control goesI lose the ball, I can’t pass, my defence leave wide holes. Even though I’ve just played a fantastic half of football.
- On the other side of it, when I am 3-0 down, I also suddenly improve and can sometimes get a draw back.
- The worst example and the thing that wound me up the most was when the system entered me into a game of Chelsea v Chelsea - I was 4-0 up at half time and at the second half the other team got back to 4-3 and when I had Kante running with the ball in the midfield, the other team’s Kante came from the other side of the pitch and caught up and out paced my Kante! That was the moment I knew that DDA was real and the game was, to put it simply, corrupt.
Whilst I understand that just leaving teams with the quality of the user could lead to plenty of 10-0 score lines, it’s just not fair or acceptable that I pay £50 for this game to change the goalposts half way through the game (excuse the pun).
FIFA 2022
Playing as Spurs v Real Betis (Real Betis for christs sake!) and I’m 3-0 up at half time. I change NOTHING with my play, players, formation or general gameplay and within the first 10 mins of 2nd half it’s 3-3.
Somehow in the 15 minute break my players became slower, unable to pass, left defensive gaps which they didn’t in the first half, weren’t making forward runs when passing like the first half, couldn’t control the ball, took heavy touched and lost possession.
I mean I’d considered my previous experiences with DDA in FIFA but never to this extent - it literally felt like the system just completely turned on me. The worst part and the part that made me rage quit (I have never rage quite before!) was when the Betis Centre Back out paced and caught up to Heung Min Son. Heung. Min. Son. One of Spurs’ fastest players and one of the PL’s fastest players.
It was then I knew that purely and simply that this game was and is corrupt. To such a poor poor extent - they don’t even try and make it fair or hide it like they did with FIFA 2020!
So yeah, for me, seriously new levels of s**thousery from EA and these games. So much so that I can confidently say I will never play this game again or any subsequent FIFA game - not even worth it for Career mode, I don’t want to be a statistic that help EA towards creating more of these. They sell so many so it’s not likely that my protests will result in anything meaningful, but I’m just so wound up by it.
And a little bit about me, I’m a decent gamer. I don’t quit, I don’t get mad, I never get angry - after all, it’s just a game?! I’ve just spent 250 hours completing Elden Ring - a game in which I died hundreds, maybe thousands, of times against bosses - but I had to learn and adjust and make changes. There was literally nothing I could do in this game of FIFA
