Although the plot left some unanswered questions, the production quality was amazing, the acting excellent, character development over action (my kind of movie). The characters were multi-dimensional and went way beyond the trite archetypes that Hollywood often puts out in sci-fi movies. The music also fit perfectly. And the scene where Augustine is speaking to Sully, knowing that he's speaking to the daughter he never knew is heart wrenching. Clooney's acting in this scene was amazing. You could feel all the regret he had for never having been part of his daughter's life, though she says he inspired her to join the space program. Yet his single focus on his work (which led to the discovery of a habitable moon) gave hope for the future of humanity which his daughter would be part of. When he is younger his wife says, "I hope it's worth it", referring to his excessive dedication to his work at the cost of all else. In the end, it was. The little girl in the movie (I'll omit the spoiler here) also reinforces Augustine's regret for abandoning his daughter. This movie isn't perfect, but it brings to the heart what's really important in life.
