I feel like this movie went too far promoting autonomy and independence by showing disregard for values and showing disrespect to parents and peers. While these attributes are important and have value, there timing and the way they are attained should be considered. While there was some resolution to poor choices made, I feel like the overarching message to youth is that they should be allowed to be whomever they want and act however they want, and that it is ok to act out in order to express this to adults, specifically to parents. I also don’t appreciate the liberty taken to teach about women's hygiene, and “keeping her petals clean”. This should be left to parents. Very disappointing.
