Spoiler Warning:
I don't want this review to sound like a hate comment, so I'll do my best to simply express my true feelings towards this game. First I'll start off with what I liked about it. Almost everything about this game's mechanical depth and certain aspects of the story go unseen by many. Ashley Johnson most certainly worked her ass off in this game with her amazing voice acting once again with how it improved from the first, and I have to say she's pretty underrated for her skill. The performance is also amazing as it displays one of the best graphics I've ever seen in video game history, and the gameplay is also great. I love how you can go prone in grass to hide away from enemies, I like how you can use enemies as human shields while holding at gunpoint from behind, and I like the section day 3 with Ellie where you can hide underwater to avoid being seen by enemies. Now that I've gotten that out the way, I'm moving onto what I didn't like. I praised the gameplay but that's only me complimenting it on its own while the gameplay SECTIONS are a different story. Most of the game is jumping from here to there to there to here, pretty much the same as the first game. The beginning of the game during the second chapter where you arrive to Seattle with Ellie was pretty cool on the first day. The game gives you a nice adventurous feel to it, while the rest of the game is what I just mentioned. Then none of the puzzles feel rewarding and they feel like something a 7-year-old can do, same with all of the safe codes you come across. And I hate the silencer thing where after 3-5 shots with it on your pistol, it always breaks. Instead of them adding this, they could've gave you a puzzle to solve to find a safe code with a permanent silencer in it, but they didn't to give players the illusion that they've accomplished something. And the story is dogshit. They killed off Joel, the main playable character from the first game just to give Ellie a task to avenge him, but Abby tears down everything she cared about because of nothing. Yes, Joel killed her father but that was a second-degree at best, while Abby's killing of Joel was first-degree. She kills Joel, physically disables Tommy, ruined Ellie's life but the writers wanted us to sympathize with her. I can't sympathize with a character that never feels remorse for their actions or never reflects on their choices, and Abby does none of these. Gameplay wise, it's okay. Story and character wise, terrible.
