The stars are for the visual brilliance of this thing. But as for plot? This is Star Wars meets Dances with Wolves times Aqua Man with a gratuitous video game feel in the action. The villains are cartoonish, the heroes have "powers" and then there's a Captain Ahab thrown in because?? The money spent on writers must have been minimal. The world building and a human race that survived killing itself long enough to reach the stars deserve better. This story presupposes that fascism becomes our leading philosophy and science/scientists are an afterthought. That's where they really lost me. It's worth watching for the spectacle, but really it's just another stuff blows up movie at heart. It could have been more.
