A shame the series was so short lived but America was not ready to accept an uncharacteristically well-spoken educated African-American vigilante as the central character in a drama series even though non-POC characters in other series were. I'm sure there were other factors which contributed to it's cancellation but if you look at the history of prime-time dramas on American television, you will see that my observation of this phenomenon is pretty accurate. African-Americans are accepted in supporting roles as partners or even in positions of authority but not as stars in a solo capacity. I challenge you to name three IF you can name one series.
I was glad to see Avery Brooks was given another opportunity in ST: DS9.
One of my all-time favorite shows.
