Disney is showing white supremacy under the guise of advocating for diversity.
Africans and people of African descent have their own legends, myths, fairy tales, and cultural identities that they will be very proud to share with the world. If Disney really wants to support racial equality, it will build a mermaid out of Africans with their cultural characteristics. But no, Disney took a story built with European cultural features and a white fairy symbol deeply ingrained in the minds of many people around the world, including people of African descent. What is that? Is that for Disney? African culture is not worth the effort to learn; Africans don't need to have a real mermaid of their own; just borrowing the shell of a white mermaid and borrowing the culture of Europe is fine. That is racism.
