I am highly critical of anything, but I enjoyed this movie, purely as a two-hour escape. Sure, there are plenty of flaws in it, not the least of which is that no child without a life vest would have survived the rapids, and with their blindfolds intact! Nor would the little birds have. It is not a “horror” movie; I don’t know what it is, maybe something existential, but it had plenty of suspense. The end had a lot of holes in it. It’s hard to provide satisfying endings to stories. “Breaking Bad” was perfect: a perfect trajectory and a perfect ending. That’s rare.
Sandra Bullock is mesmerizing to watch, no matter what she does. The relationship between her and Tom was the best part of the movie (it’s not worthy of being called a film). So yeah, a great escape, like “The River Wild.”
