As a 47 year veteran of the radio business, whose former station played a very small part in this motion picture (WCOL in Columbus, Ohio), and who got to interview Tom Hanks as part of the deal to use our call letters in the movie, I can tell you the scene where the Oneders hear their song on the radio for the first time is what gets me every time. It shows the impact that radio play had for a teen band in the 60's. The Oneders remind me of a band from my area...Rick and The Raiders, who became The McCoys...whose 3 inch tape recording of a song whose backing was recorded by The Strangeloves...that recording was taken to WING Radio in Dayton in 1965. They played the tape...and "Hang On Sloopy" was on it's way to #1. And now, you know who Rick Derringer is.
