My brother is a massive LOTR fan and we watched this, and after which he proceeded to explain how this show is off the rails. To begin with, the leading lady is the lady of the forest, not some war maiden. She’s also an adult, and met her husband (who doesn’t exist in the show, he just kinda vanished somewhere), in the 1st age, before a whole part of the continent sunk into the sea, so she couldn’t be a child when the show shows her as one. They just kinda took her name and looks and imported whatever they wanted for a character, which is awful. She’s supposed to be in hiding for decades and creating the golden forest eventually, not fighting a war. She’s not a fighting character at all, and her involvement and random issues don’t make sense other than to make the show a drama, which is pulling from the LOTR story. They’re mixing the ages, characters and scenarios up and getting them totally wrong, people exist when they shouldn’t, there’s two different incarnations of the strongest dwarf when that just never happens because you can’t have two strongest dwarfs, dwarf women don’t have beards, which is a literal cultural thing, and the story and show overall, it’s just all a mess. So to those who said the criticisms were “unfounded,” they’re 100% founded. Nothing makes sense and it’s all out of order, and there’s way too much that just isn’t right. Putting pretty characters on screen and saying nice words isn’t enough to cover the absolute travesty they did to the world of LOTR. It’s so bad I watched it and then got a 2 hour lecture on how bad it was with actual points and proof. If they were gonna make an AU they should have marketed it as one.
