This is an extremely moving
& thought provoking documentary showing a little known side of our history. It made me ashamed to be Australian & to know that our government did nothing to prosecute Nazi war criminals, despite knowing of the presence of hundreds of them in our country. No wonder people could have the law into their own hands. It must have been the ultimate betrayal for people to report known Nazis who committed mass murder & to find that no action was taken against them other than for the police to warn them, so they could disappear. It is a stain on Australian history & the concept of justice. The fact that it happened so soon after the war when there were still living witnesses to the atrocities, is inexcusable. So many Australians lost their lives fighting against the Nazis & their allies. What possible reason is for Australia to protect the perpetrators?
Extremely sensitively handled film. I particularly appreciated seeing the Jewish Partisans portrayed as heroes seeking justice & not just victims.
Although it is too late for real justice, there should be an enquiry in to who in the government decided to have a policy to protect Nazi war criminals & their identities exposed.
