Big Jordan Peele fan. I loved his first two movies and felt like they altered the genre of "horror." Unfortunately, this movie did not deliver the same. This film was the most ambitious yet, but it overreached.
Throughout the film, the themes were easily identifiable, and important to discuss. The characters were lovable and yet didn't seem to have any plot-armor. The main source of fear was eerie in the beginning of the film, but quickly lost steam. By the end, I didn't feel any fear and was just waiting to see how things resolved. This comes in contrast to Peele's other two films.
There were also a few subplots that easily could have been removed and the main plot wouldn't be affected. That's sad to say, because one subplot in particular is more terrifying than the main story.
Overall, the movie tried to do too much to change the genre and lost focus on maintaining some of the things viewers actually want.
