First I’d like to say they did an amazing job with the casting! Grace VanderWaal was perfect for the role of Stargirl and Graham Verchere played Leo very well. The songs from the movie were also beautifully written I really enjoyed them!
The problem is the movie was so rushed, and they didn’t use enough scenes from the book to make it truly understandable to someone who was unfamiliar with Stargirl’s character.
- We missed out on the Hillari Kimball and Stargirl drama. (They gave her a reason to hate Stargirl, which was a twist) So much mean girl potential wasted :(
- The entire school hates her for going in the ambulance with the rival player; but they skipped out on all the quirky things Stargirl did that started the wariness of her peers
- Her outfits weren’t as out there as they were in the book and that was really disappointing. I wanted to see a crazy Stargirl wardrobe but we only got like two outfits that even resembled the book.
* No Wayne Parr scene
* No basketball season
* The entire dance scene barely even compared to the book
Overall the movie wasn’t too bad, but being a fan of the book for so long, I was bound to be a critic. The casting was perfect; I just wish they were given more.
