As a lond time fan of this series, and having read it completely through multiple times, I am not quite sure what to think. I had hoped they would learn from the game if thrones to follow the books more closely. Having that said, these books are very long and extremely detail oriented. I have to point out that there is very little of the eye of the world in this series other than the most basic plot line is followed. Which in and of itself lends to a watchable, enjoyable experience. I do feel as though anyone who has read the books will feel slightly disappointed that the books were not followed more closely. I am optimistic that if the show takes off, that maybe they will do so. Though it seems difficult now to do because of how the first season was produced. It is still a good show to watch. My advice: read the books if you liked this series and have not.
