IT Chapter Two was essentially a big budget horror movie sequel, and the sequels are never as good as the originals. Having said that, IT Chapter Two was a decent flick. The acting was good for the most part, especially for a horror sequel. It was no James Quall, but it was nice to see Bill Hader in a leading movie role. It did feel a little long at times, and they could have probably shaved some time off the 2h50m runtime.
My two main takes while watching this were:
1) This feels like a Stephen King movie. The first film touched on it, and this one did even more. This takes place in Derry, Maine. And Derry is unlike any other place on Earth. A town creates and molded over decades from by a brilliant author who has influenced people and changed the world with his writing.
2) Unfortunately, this film was not scary. It did not retain the feel from the first film. I know the whole story, read the book and watched the miniseries. Obviously, seeing Pennywise for the first time through the eyes of adolescents makes for a scarier story. The movie was always what it was going to be. There were a couple jump scares and things were creepy. But I did hear a lot of laughing from the back.
Overall, good horror flick. If you were a fan of IT Chapter One, are a fan of horror movies or a fan of Stephen King, it is a must see. She's a little long, but I know I will be adding it to my collection when it comes out.
