If you want to feel strong emotion watch this movie. It breaks the Hollywood mold by portraying a totally innocent and non-sexual love between two friends. It’s a simple story with no trickery, plot twists, surprises, or any gimmicks writers use in movies. These characters are simple, but not simple minded. They share a great sense of humor. There’s a quiet contentedness that they both have, yet there’s an underlying sense of deep sadness from past events, I gathered from Romano’s character’s reaction to a romantic overature from a woman.
While I’m strongly against euthanasia and suicide, I hold no judgement against someone in a situation like this. Your heart breaks for both characters. The culminating scene is heart-wrenching. I haven’t felt emotion like this from a movie since “Dancer in the Dark” or “A Man Called Ove.”
