Check & Mate is a sweet love story taking place in the world of professional chess. Mallory reluctantly re-entering this world to support her family for love and misplaced guilt she feels over the past. Nolan is the number one chess player in the world, who comes alive when he plays against Mallory for the first time. Mallory becomes Nolan’s complete focus, while Mallory tries to reconcile with her feelings over chess while keeping secrets from her family. I love this book for many reasons from the cover art to the love story to the side characters. A comfort read I will probably read annually.
