I CAN GUARANTEE YOU, ANYONE WHO GAVE THIS A 5 STAR HASN'T SEEN THE ORIGINAL. LOOK AT THE REVIEWS WITH 5 STARS, THEY ARE SO FAKE AND OBVIOUSLY MADE UP OMG. THAT'S SO LOW TO BUY FAKE REVIEWS. EW. This is gonna be a long review so apologies in advance. They completely ruined it. As someone who grew up watching Mulan (1998) MULTIPLE TIMES, to me this is just absolutely bad. Don't get me wrong the cast did a great job and the effects were pretty decent BUT THE STORYLINE WS COMPLETELY DESTROYED TO TATTERS. Everything that made the original movie fun, unique and that iconic movie it is was removed. The new movie couldn't even be compared to a shadow of the original. Like the least you could do was copy the storyline. Why do the effort of making a new one? Just copy the original that was the whole point of a remake. Here's everything wrong with this movie : 1) THEY REMOVED GRADMA'S CHARACTER 2) THEY REMOVED MUSHU like what were you thinking? Mushu is a FIRE DRAGON NOT A PHOENIX. And mushu talks, his sassy personality was one of the most iconic things in the original WHY IN GOD'S GRACE WOULD YOU DECIDE TO REMOVE IT? 3) They destroyed Li Shang's character. Li Shang's is their COMMANDING OFFICER. SON OF THE GENERAL. HE FALLS IN LOVE WITH MULAN. NOT A RANDOM OTHER SOLDIER. 4) None of the imperial soldiers trust her or take her side when she talks to them they tell her to get lost until they see the emperor get attacked. They don't just listen to her and follow her halfway across china to save the emperor. 5) She didn't reveal herself by choice, she was WOUNDED BY SHAN YU in BATTLE and when the doc heals her reveals that she is a girl. She doesn't just remove her hair and waltz back in as a girl. 6) The soldiers were returning home from victory to a festival celebration when the emperor was attacked not mid day random day. 7) THEY REMOVED CHI-FU'S CHARACTER. Yes he was annoying but he was the fun, and the humour. 8) They removed all the songs even the dressup song in the beginning when they prepare mulan for the matchmaker. 9) Transformation of mulan into a man was SO underwhelming, it was such an extraordinary scene of her cutting her hair and getting dressed. 10) They removed Crickey but i'll forgive that. 11) THERE IS NO WITCH. But i really liked the idea, if you had gotten all the other mistakes above this right, THEN the witch would've been a great addition but without that it's just another big fat mistake. This was just horrible, if you've watched and love the original. Don't wste your time on this, it's reallllly bad. It felt like Avatar The Last airbender movie, I wanted to pull out my hair half of the time.
