Excellent read! At times slightly confusing since events constantly shift between past and present, but its only a minor detail as Anthony Doerr is a master wordsmith! Far more comprehensive than just another war story about Nazi Germany. The detailed impressions and experiences on either side of the border of Germany and France through the eyes of young Werner and all the multifaceted inner world of blind Marie Laure is totally mesmerizing. So many rich layers of the will to survive in the face of destruction and inhumanity. Highly recommended!!

Got sucked in...and, yeah, Mr. Bana plays a real scary guy!! But for the other performances (mum and daughters) I can only say: lame (mum) or annoying (daughters). In fact I've seen much better performances by the actress who plays the younger daughter. If the older daughter would talk in real life the way she does in this series, I would do a runner. The ending sucks! The mum way too impeccable for the trauma unfolding...
