Mimi St.James

This movie was incredibly painful to watch and a chore to get through. The acting and dialogue are stilted and farcical, and, though perhaps in an effort to evoke sympathy for the plight of Jews under the Nazi regime before the official start of WWII, the movie's use of violence and "blood" feels overdone and contrived. I understand that this film is about an actress and her brief love affair with Joseph Goebbels, but, in my view, regardless of the main plot of the film, any movie set against a backdrop of Nazi rule would do well to take more care with its presentation of the very real history of discrimination, violence, and genocide enacted upon the Jews and other marginalized groups by Adolf Hitler and his henchmen.
