I was a little surprised by Outriders. Due to the mixed reviews on Steam I was hesitant to purchase it; however, for the most part it is a great game. The story line is engaging and the, from what I have seen in my 10-15hours of play time thus far, character arcs and voice acting is on point.
I have found that sometimes there is still a shakiness to the camera, both in cut scenes and sometimes in gameplay. I am certain, given some time, that the developers will get that issue squared away.
I have spent several hundreds to thousands of hours playing games in this genre and games that have influenced Outriders. Games such as Destiny and Destiny 2, Gears of War franchise, The Division series, and even looter hack and slash games like the Diablo series. I must say, Outriders is an enjoyable mix of the aforementioned titles. The loot system thus far is rewarding and the crafting system seems to be intricate.
The skill trees, as well as the character classes, are both unique and appealing. There is a lot of fun to be had in this game. Although, I would personally prefer that it was actually open-world instead of the linear approach but the travel system does mitigate some of that disappointment.
Overall, at this point, I am very much enjoying the game. I have yet to try out the cooperative aspect but I predict it will be everything I expect it to be.
For now, I am giving this game 4 out of 5 stars and I will leave a review once I reach the end-game content. If you enjoy 3rd person shooters, RNG loot systems that give you plenty of loot from the get-go, intricate crafting systems, character classes and in-depth skill trees, then I believe you should check out Outriders!
