Often feels like a Mexican TV drama, though I could possibly have enjoyed it some at least if it weren’t for the pro-socialist / anti-conservative political undertones throughout the series. The Reagan administration is made out to be totally unsupportive and downright obstructive toward the DEA when the reality is they were the exact opposite. The Reagan administration was irate about Camarena’s death and shut down the border until the Mexican government started playing ball. They were fully behind these agents and had the Mexican government not started cooperating would have gone to much more extreme measures. In fact it wasn’t until the Reagan administration that we even had the DEA and a serious stance against these trafficking thugs. There’s a reason Camarena was the last agent that ever happened to and that reason was the response of the Reagan administration.
